Time flies when you’re having fun (and working hard)! I have now completed my first semester in the Specialized Journalism Master of Arts program at the USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism — and what an incredible ride it’s been so far.
This term, I completed a wide variety of assignments across many types of journalistic storytelling. Some highlights include writing scripts for broadcast, coding, narrative profile writing, audio storytelling, video production and analyzing powerful documentaries.
In my Digital Immersion course, I worked with a fantastic group of reporters: Kassidy Hudson, Sarah Goldstein, Karan Lodha and Laura Pylvänäinen. We were given a reporting prompt — The Golden State: Living the Dream or Dreaming of Living.
Going off of that theme, we spent the past five weeks creating a multimedia story examining LA’s Major League Soccer scene. A significant part of the clubs’ fan bases here are Latino. We asked community members how recent ICE raids have impacted game attendance within support sections.
After filming from the field at both LAFC and Galaxy games, the difference in atmosphere was striking. Galaxy’s support section was less than a third full, while LAFC’s sections were packed with energetic fans. Through extensive reporting and collaboration, we uncovered how only some organizations are supporting their fans through recent events, influencing whether fans wanted to remain part of the experience.
For our piece, I conducted fan interviews and worked with Laura on the visual elements. I led the production of a two-minute documentary on the evolving LAFC fan experience, as well as the photography efforts — capturing key moments from both games to highlight the contrast in energy and attendance.

Luke Basso, third year University of Oregon long snapper shares his story as an athlete that has pushed through an unfathomable amount of loss- five friends in five years. This story is a loaded one, and I am thankful for Luke and his strength to talk about something so tragic and personal.
One of the five members lost was one of my best friends, Barrett Bevacqua. This video is dedicated to him.
SAACHI X PRODUCT DESIGN PORTRAIT SERIES
My final project for my advanced lighting and portraiture class at the University of Oregon asked students to create a cohesive six image portrait series.
For my project, I decided to photograph product design major Saachi Poddar to show her personality through a variety of pieces she’s created. My goal with this project was to demonstrate that I can encapsulate a brand and their values while also showcasing the creator’s personality and sense of style through lighting, creative directing and fashion.
In planning this project, Saachi and I created 12 different styles to go with 12 of her pieces, but we ended up only needing to use six for the final critique. Pictured here are portraits featuring her saddle bag, dress, two scarves, shark pouch, embroidery piece and a pair of 3-D printed clogs. A huge thank you to Saachi for being a part of this project!
